Autism
What is Autism?
Autism is neurodevelopmental, and is a term used to describe a unique neurotype, or brain functioning, that influences how an individual experiences the world. Individuals with autism may process communication, social interactions, and both internal and external experiences differently than those with other neurotypes. This variation is a natural part of human diversity, and being autistic is not a disorder, but a different way of being. It’s essential to remember that autism is not a one-size-fits-all experience.
Individuals with autism have exceptional strengths, such as having an incredible memory, remarkable visual or auditory learning abilities, or excel in particular academic or creative pursuits. Embracing autism means recognizing and valuing the strengths and gifts that come with being neurodivergent.
