WHAT IT IS
What Is Neurodiversity?
Neurodivergence describes natural variations in human brains, minds, and cognitive styles. Neurodivergent people think, learn, communicate, and navigate the world in ways that differ from dominant social expectations. These differences are a valuable part of human diversity and deserve accessibility, autonomy, affirmation, and support.
Neurodivergence encompasses a wide range of neurotypes, identities, and conditions. Some are present from birth, while others may be acquired through developmental, medical, or neurological changes across the lifespan. Neurodivergence can include:
Dyscalculia
Dyslexia
Dyspraxia
Highly Sensitive People (HSPs)
Sensory processing differences
Stroke-related cognitive changes
Tourette syndrome and tic conditions
Traumatic brain injury
Giftedness (including 2E, 3E, or multi-exceptionality)

Neurodivergence Shows Up Differently for Everyone
Neurodivergence shows up differently for every person. Some patterns that neurodivergent adults commonly share:
Sensory seeking or sensory sensitivity
Social-communication differences
Executive-functioning challenges
Periods of intense focus or deep interest
Creative or unconventional problem-solving
Emotional intensity or justice-orientation
A need for movement, stimming, or regulation
