Clinical supervision and Consultation at NWC
Shift from Affirming Language to Affirming Action
When it comes to supporting neurodivergent individuals, using the right terminology is only the first step. "Neurodiversity-lite", or using affirming language without a deep structural shift, can unintentionally harm the very clients we want to support. Grounded in lived experience and intersectionality, clinical consultation at NWC offers a dedicated space to bridge your training gaps, challenge pathologizing frameworks, and move past the buzzwords to build a truly neurodiversity-affirming practice.

Case Consultation
Discussion of client cases (without identifying information) from a neurodiversity-affirming lens. How to conceptualize, approach, and adapt your therapy.
Adapting Therapy Modalities
How to adapt evidence-based modalities, including CBT, ACT, and mindfulness, to better fit neurodivergent clients. What works, what doesn't, and why.
Cultural Identity & Neurodivergence
Understanding the intersection of neurodivergence, cultural identity, and the Third Culture Kid (TCK) experience is a rarely addressed area.

Why NWC
More Than Neurodiversity-Affirming Language
🧠 AuDHD Lived Experience
Consultation offered by a neurodivergent counsellor, not someone who learned about neurodivergence from the outside. This fundamentally changes the depth and quality of clinical insight available to you.
🎓 Doctoral Research on Neurodiversity
Yuka is a doctoral candidate in counselling and psychotherapy whose thesis is on neurodiversity, bringing current, evolving academic depth that goes well beyond clinical training.
🌏 Cultural & TCK Identity
Yuka grew up in Singapore as a Japanese-Canadian, bringing a Third Culture Kid lens to neurodivergence and identity that you will rarely find in clinical consultation spaces.
🤝 BIPOC & Intersectional Perspective
Neurodivergence does not exist outside of race, culture, and identity, our clinical consultation centers these intersections rather than treating them as secondary.
🔅 Adult-Focused
We specialize in neurodivergent adults, including late-identified and self-identified individuals, a population whose clinical needs are often underserved even in neurodiversity spaces.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
❋ What is the fee for clinical consultation?
Professional clinical consultation is $220 CAD per 50-minute session.
❋ Can I book clinical consultation from outside BC?
Yes. Clinical consultation at NWC is available online to helping professionals across Canada.
❋ Is clinical consultation the same as clinical supervision?
No. Clinical consultation is distinct from clinical supervision. You remain fully responsible, ethically and legally, for your own clinical decisions. Consultation offers a space to think through cases, approaches, and practice from a neurodiversity-affirming lens, but does not constitute supervision, clinical oversight, or psychotherapy.
❋ Do I need to work exclusively with neurodivergent clients to benefit from consultation?
No. Many helping professionals find that neurodivergent clients make up a significant part of their caseload without realizing it, particularly adults who are undiagnosed or self-identified. Consultation can help you recognize neurodivergence in your existing practice and respond more affirmingly.
❋ How does Yuka's doctoral research inform consultation?
Yuka is currently completing a doctoral degree in counselling and psychotherapy with a thesis focused on neurodiversity. This means her consultation draws on active, current engagement with the neurodiversity research base, not just clinical training or lived experience alone.
❋ Can supervision and consultation be ongoing, or do I book single sessions?
Both options are available. Supervision & ongoing consultation is for regular commitment, while case consultations is flexible, single sessions or as-needed check-ins. Some practitioners find value in ongoing consultation as they develop their neurodiversity-affirming practice over time.
❋ What makes NWC's clinical supervision and consultation different from others?
NWC's clinical supervision and consultation is offered by a neurodivergent BIPOC counsellor with lived Third Culture Kid (TCK) experience. This brings a genuinely intersectional lens, neurodivergence, culture, race, and identity.
A Space for Deeper Practice
Whatever brought you here, deepening your practice, working through a case, or finding support as a neurodivergent clinician, consultation at NWC is a space for that conversation.
